Matchbox Magazine Submission Guidelines (2025-2026)
Submit to Matchbox Magazine, a UC-wide literary and arts magazine! Our mission is to platform underrepresented student voices across the UC system, with a focus on platforming artists with a diversity of intersectional identities, experiences, and radical visions for expression. We publish visual art, prose, poetry, music, and spoken word in our annual publication and we are now accepting submissions on a rolling basis until: January 5, 2026! Questions? Please submit before the submission deadline: January 5th, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
Submission guidelines:
1. Submissions are only open to current UC undergraduates.
2. Do not include your name or any identifying information physically on your written/visual works! Please provide this information only in written answers on this form.
3. We will accept a maximum of five pieces:
- Written pieces should be under 1500 words and submitted as a PDF file.
- Art and photography should be sent as JPEG files (quality of 300 DPI) of at least 1200×1200 pixels in size.
- Audio should be sent as MP3 files.
- You may submit pieces in different artistic mediums (e.g. one poem, two photographs, and one digital art piece).
4. We cannot accept works that:
- Include copyrighted or trademarked materials (characters, logos, music, photographs not taken by you, etc.).
- Include libel or slander (i.e. false, negative claims that damage a specific person’s reputation).
- Include nudity or satanic imagery.
- Include any AI-generated
5. We accept works in languages other than English (we welcome translations to English as supplements to the work!)
